Stepping Stone Path with River Stone Border

The side yard was a dirt track that turned muddy in winter, and the homeowner wanted a path that felt like part of the garden rather than a sidewalk through it.

We set irregular sandstone slabs into decomposed granite and lined both sides with rounded river stone, curving the path between a bark-mulched planting bed and the lawn. The spacing was set for a natural walking rhythm.

It's permeable, soft underfoot, and the materials pick up the tones of the house and the hedge behind it.
